In mid 1942, Grumman discovered that it needed seriously to concentrate on the production of its new F6F Hellcat fighter, and thus it contracted aided by the General Motors business to construct the Wildcat in designation FM-1. a huge selection of which went along to the Fleet Air Arm while the "Martlet Mk V." General Motors next developed an improved variation, called the FM-2 , which was powered by a Wright R-1820 motor with 1,350 horsepower. It showcased a taller straight end compared to the FM-1.
