The Renault R35 had been a French light infantry tank of the 2nd World War. Designed from 1933 and made out of 1936, the type was intended as a light infantry help tank, equipping autonomous tank battalions, that could eventually be allotted to individual infantry divisions to assist them in performing offensive operations. To the end it had been reasonably well-armoured but slow and lacking a good anti-tank capacity, fitted with a brief 37mm gun. On outbreak of the war, the anti-tank role was more emphasized resulting in the development and ultimate manufacturing from April 1940 of a subtype with an even more effective much longer gun, the Renault R40. It had been planned to move new manufacturing capability towards the make of other, faster kinds, but as a result of the beat of France the R35/40 remained many many French tank regarding the war, about 1685 vehicles having been manufactured in June 1940. At that moment it had been exported to Poland,Romania,TurkeyandYugoslavia. The remainder of this warGermanyand its allies would utilize captured vehicles, some of them rebuilt into tank destroyers.
