The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was a global War II American fighter aircraft built by Lockheed. Developed to an United States Army Air Corps requirement, the P-38 had distinctive double booms and one, main nacelle containing the cockpit and armament. Called "fork-tailed devil" by the Luftwaffe, the P-38 was found in some functions, including dive bombing, degree bombing, ground-attack, picture reconnaissance missions, and extensively as a long-range escort fighter whenever designed with drop tanks under its wings.
