The Jimmy Carter, the next and final submarine of the Seawolf class, premiered in June 2004 and commissioned in February 2005. The submarine is approximately 30 m longer compared to other two ships of her class due to the insertion of a section referred to as Multi-Mission Platform (MMP), that will be the initial feature associated with Jimmy Carter. MMP provides enhanced payload capabilities, enabling the submarine to allow for the advanced level technology needed to develop and test a fresh generation of tools, sensors and undersea cars for naval special warfare, tactical surveillance operations.
