F-84F Thunderstreak
The F-84F Thunderstreak, powered by the Wright J-65 jet motor, became one of the very most notorious jet fighters of the 1950s. Characterized by a swept wing, the single-seat fighter associated with the Republic had not been just used by the U.S. Air Force, but also by the air forces of many NATO countries, like the Italian Air Force that used almost 200 F-84Fs to equip its flight units with fighters and fighter-bombers through the last half associated with 1950s. The F-84F was additionally assigned on 6th Wing, stationed at Ghedi, which, along with conventional operational uses, used the aircraft for the establishment of the "Red Devils" aerobatic team. The livery for the acrobatic team’s 7 Thunderstreaks featured red wings and the expression of the Devil along with his trident. The "Red Devils" stayed active until 1959, as well as the connection with this first "aviation unit" acrobatic group to use jet aircraft, laid the fundamentals the establishment of the nationwide Aerobatic Team in 1961.
