The multirole Tornado is a twin-engine combat aircraft with a variable-sweep wing. This sort of aircraft may be the consequence of a joint development task performed by British, German and Italian businesses. Although during its life time it is often useful for several purposes (ground assault, electronic combat/reconnaissance, interceptor), its primary role has become to do low-altitude penetrating strike missions. The Tornado baptism of fire occurred in 1991 during the Gulf War. More in detail, the air campaign associated with the Gulf War, when the Italian Tornados IDS participated, began on seventeenth January. The aim of the aerial bombing campaign was the suppression of army objectives and infrastructures.
