The Panzer IV was created in the first few months of this 2nd World War to offer the German armoured forces with a better protected vehicle carrying a 7.5 CM cannon. This is a reaction to the limitations of its predecessor the model III with a 5 CM cannon set alongside the danger of the enemys means, in particular the soviet T 34s of built with an arm of that calibre in addition to good armour plating. The model IV tank was extensively applied to all fronts throughout the 2nd World War by the German Army.
