This large triple shaft amphibian automobile originated during the 2nd World War for the United states military. The aim was to build a vehicle to provide ammo, meals and materials saved into the holds of transport vessels to invading troops occupying beachheads on enemy soil immediately after landing. The DUKW offered good navigating qualities and may move well off-road too, which, along with its high load capacity, enabled it to do its logistic part fully. Into the post-war years, it was popular by USAs allies completely towards 70s, including civil security projects.
