The appearance of brand new German heavy tanks regarding Asian front side - the Tiger in specific -, stimulated Soviet engineers to produce a fresh generation of armoured cars, on the basis of the T-100 prototype. The torsion bar suspension ended up being installed greater inside hull, lowering the tanks height from the ground and enabling the installation of a larger turret in a position to hold a 100mm cannon (in JS-1) or a 122mm cannon (into the JS-2, which appeared at the conclusion of 1943).
