Root of the Wing Revolution
The group Lotus Type 78 showcased its performance inside 1977 competition period. Its innovative design showcased a slim monocoque with side pontoons, which had undersurfaces shaped like inverted aircraft wings to come up with downforce, and instantly rendered all other competition vehicle designs obsolete. The 2 vehicles were driven by Mario Andretti and Gunnar Nilsson that 12 months, with the former taking victories within U.S. West, Spanish, French, and Italiah GPs whilst the latter won at Belgian GP. The Type 78 also went on to evolve to the more famous championship-winning Type 79.
