About the JS-2

The Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 ended up being created to counter the German Tiger I. The JS-2 had been put into production in the second half of WWII in December 1943 and was designed with a powerful 122mm weapon, maximum armor depth of 120mm, and good mobility. From August 1944, top of the area of the glacis hatch was taken from the hull which greatly enhanced its protective security. The JS-2 was produced in the Chelyabinsk Kirov factory (ChKZ) and an attribute of this tank was its one-piece rounded front side hull. JS-2s were used to breakthrough defensive roles including in tank battles and contributed to the eventual Russian victory.
