During the early phase of WW2, Germany achieved outstanding successes through the use of "Blitzkrieg" techniques with motorized troops. In order to counter this, the Allied countries required tough and dependable automobiles with exemplary cross-country ability. In mid 1940, the U.S. Army ordered development of a tiny sized, multi-purpose 4-wheel drive vehicle to meet up with this need. These 12 months the design ended up being complete, with manufacturing beginning right after. As a method of transportation for soldiers, the car played an integral role in securing Allied success. It served on various fronts across the world, in almost every conceivable role. Production reached roughly 640,000 units by August 1945.
