About the Japanese Heavy Cruiser Mikuma
The next of four Mogami Class Cruisers become designed with five 15.5cm triple guns had been the Mikuma. Finished in August 1935, its primary firearms were later replaced with 20.3cm double weapons switching this ship into huge cruiser. Though of this same class, the Mikuma&39;s connection along with other structures are slightly different from those of its elder sibling, the Mogami. The Mikuma had been part of the 7th Heavy Cruiser Squadron of second fleet and participated in the Malay landing operation together with Battle of Sunda Strait at the beginning of the Pacific War. But, during the battle of Midway, when all vessels associated with the 7th Squadron made simultaneous evasive maneuvers to escaspe from an enemy submarine, the end of Mogami relocated forward and slammed into the Mikuma. A short while later, the Mikuma sustained heavy attacks from over 100 US bombers and sank to the ocean flooring regarding seas Northwest of Midway.
