During WWII, Japanese forces developed the Komatsu G40 Bulldozer to aid in airfield construction. This is the very first bulldozer manufactured by the Japanese. 100 and forty-eight G40 bulldozers had been built through the war. The G40 ended up being delivered to the northern and southern fronts, but due to the war couple of was able to reach their assigned airfields. Only 1 G40 survived the war, and may be seen within Komatsu Techo Center in Shizuka, Japan. The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers respected the vehicle in 2007 as a Mechanical Engineering Heritage item.
