In regards to the JGSDF Light Armored Car Utilizing the HMV Hayate and Type 73 Little energy car fitted with little armor and achieving poor protection abilities, in 1997 japan Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) began development of a brand new high-mobility light armored transportation automobile. Capable of accommodating 4 workers, the JGSDF Light Armored car is equipped with a 160hp liquid cooled 4-cycle 4-cylinder diesel engine, letting it achieve top rates of 100km/h. Weighing just 4.5 tons, with the ability to be carried by a CH-47J helicopter or C-130H transportation aircraft for emergency air-drops. The weapon mount on the roof can be fitted with a 5.56mm MINIMI machine weapon or Light Anti-Tank Directed Missile. Automobiles deployed to Iraq were fitted with strengthened bulletproof windshields, with some vehicles fitted with cable cutters and a rotational armored address across the gun mount for additional protection.
