During WWII, Finnish forces had been extremely short of adequate armored vehicles like tanks. The majority of the tanks within their control were obsolete models which were no match for the newer Russian tanks including the T-34 and KV-1. However, circumstances designed the Finnish Army must take full advantage of what was available, and additionally they combined the hull from a captured Russian BT-7 light tank with a new turret armed with the ancient 1918 British 4.5-inch howitzer to produce the BT-42 attack weapon. It's believed only 18 automobiles were produced throughout the WWII conflict.
