The U.S. Air Force requested a few manufacturers to examine and develop prototypes through the late 1960&39;s in FX program (Fighter Experimental). McDonnell Douglas was awarded a contract to produce the F-15 Eagle jet fighter in December 1969. The Eagle&39;s advanced level aerodynamic design significantly reduced drag at both low and high lift designs, and reached superior maneuverability during varying flight conditions.
Making its maiden flight in July 1972, it had been deployed in November 1974 because the F-15A Eagle, and had been in active service since that time.
