The Supermarine Spitfire the most widely recognized fighters of WWII. Created by R.J Mitchell, the Spitfire is known for its exploits throughout the Battle of Britain. Through the entire war, the Spitfire&39;s motor technology developed to compete with the more recent Axis aircrafts. The production of this Spitfire Mk. IX continued before end of WWII. The most common Spitfire featured the "C" universal wing, which may be loaded with four 20mm cannons or two 20mm cannons and four 7.7mm machine guns. A few of the Spitfires were also fitted with bomb racks to permit the aircraft to be used as a fighter-bomber.
