00106 LCAC JMSDF The JMSDF LCAC (Landing Craft, Air Cushioned) was introduced through the United States as a landing craft of LST Osumi class ships. It cruises along with its hull floated about four foot above the surface. It is therefore with the capacity of landing directly from the mom ship towards coastline, and swift loading and unloading of vehicles. This makes it possible for troops to access 70per cent worldwide's coastline, while just 17percent for conventional landing crafts. It can carry heavy payloads of 60 tons, equal to one Type 90 tank, or four armored automobiles. The four 4000hp engines, two for drifting together with other people for propelling, are installed separately both in modules associated with the hull. Although JMSDF LCACs were initially in the offing as LST-based crafts, in 2004 they were assigned in first air cushioned craft squadron. They certainly were numbered from LCAC-2191 to LCAC-2196, and grew to become treated as protection vessels.
