The PT-76 is one of several light amphibious tanks developed and employed by the Soviet Army. Although the PT-76 is lightly armored for a modern tank, its inherent amphibious capability outweighs these limits. It has had extensive use within the Warsaw Pact and many other countries. ThePT-76 holds a 76mm main weapon with a maximum effective range of around 1500 meters. Operated by a three man crew, the PT-76 is frequently regularly transport troops. The fact that the commander can also be the gunner and radio operator decreases their effectiveness as an observer. The PT-76 additionally lagged behind other Soviet armored fighting vehicles in having no evening vision equipment with no NBC security system for the three-man team.
