The stwind was the very last of a number of Flakpanzers (anti-aircraft tanks) in line with the Panzer IV framework to enter manufacturing, albeit in really small numbers. The stwind carried one 3.7cm FlaK43 weapon, that has been more effective compared to the less effective 2cm guns associated with the irbelwind, and also needed less space inside turret, also only needing a crew of two (gunner and loader) rather than the gunner and two loaders of the quadruple guns. Like the irbelwind the stwind had a distinctive angular turret, this time six sided, and with the weapon rising from a slot in the pointed front regarding the turret. After trials in July, on 18 August 1944 Ostbau received a contract to create 100 stwind Is. Less than half among these vehicles is produced the very first fifteen for the eventual total of forty-three were finished in December 1944, far too late to have any effect on the war.
