The Bf109G series, or "Gustav", had been introduced in mid-1942; its initial variations (G-1 through G-4) differed just in minor details through the Bf 109F, especially in being running on the greater powerful 1475 PS DB 605 engine. Odd numbered variations were built with a pressurised cockpit and GM-1 boost as high altitude fighters, while also numbered variations were non-pressurized air superiority fighters and fighter bombers. Long-range photo-reconnaissance variants additionally existed. The later G series (G-5 through G-14) was produced in a multitude of variations. By early 1944 tactical needs led to the addition of MW-50 water injection boost and high end superchargers, boosting motor output to 1,800-2,000 PS.
