The Ariete as the utmost crucial armored device of this Army, was completed in 1986. It had been accompanied by others in 1988 to allow the Italian Army to begin with an entire program of trials. Consequently, an initial purchase for 200 tanks was put, to be followed by an extra lot for another 200 vehicles of an improved variation.
