Sturmgeschutz III was initially designed as an attack weapon, but as war progressed it became a lot more of a defensive one. It developed into an assault weapon and tank destroyer in one. Its main part was to supplying anti-tank help towards the units in its part of procedure. Ausf A was followed by improved Ausf B, C, D and E, all armed with quick 75mm StuK 37 L/24 weapon. All variations featured quantity of customizations particular to cars that accompanied them in production. Last Ausf E was manufactured in March of 1942. Total of 822 Ausf A, B, C, D and Es had been generated by Alkett and their formal designation had been Gepanzerter Selbstfahrlafette fur Sturmgeschutz 7.5cm Kanone Ausf A-E / Sd.Kfz.142. Early Stugs stayed in active solution until mid 1943.
